A2 Music Video: Question Analysis

Which type of music video do you prefer?
Previously in my blog, I mentioned that we would like to have a combination of both a story and a performance. Some music videos, for example Taylor Swift's "Love Story" has a similar story to Romeo and Juliet. In contrast to this, Greenday's "American Idiot" is simply their performance in front of an American flag. We hope that our survey will provide us with the opportunity to combine these elements.

Which genre of music do you listen to most?
Which genre of music video do you prefer?
Although we had already decided on "Cousins" by Vampire Weekend (rock/indie), we decided to ask this question in case the genre was seriously opposed. It should hopefully confirm that the song choice is suitable for our audience.

Should the music video be fast or slow paced?
Our options also include "With the Music." A faster paced song would allow us to include more fast and energetic cuts. The pace of a music video help sets the tone of the song. For example, less cuts and a slower pace would be used for a slower song, possibly more serious. Fast pace on the other hand conveys an upbeat, exciting tone. Because our song is fast and energetic, we hope that our audience will choose this option, or "with the music."

Do you like to see lots of cuts or few cuts?
This links to the previous question, faster, more frequent cuts will convey energy and excitement whereas few cuts may portray romance, sadness etc..

Are music videos better with lots or few special effects?
We have asked this to find out if our audience would like to see some special effects, this may consist of stop motion, or elements added in post-production.

What are your favourite locations?
This question offers a range of ideas such as indoors, outdoors, stage, garage etc.. We made sure we offered locations that were possible to use. For example, a Fightstar has a music video located in an abandoned warehouse. Our budget (£0) and restricted equipment meant that we could only select areas available to us.
